March 20, 2008 - Letter Announcing CBRI Transition to MSI

Colleagues:

We are pleased to inform you that the research support services and server management previously provided by the Center for Biomedical Research Informatics (CBRI) are in the process of transferring to the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute (MSI). The transition, effective immediately, is made possible in part by transfer of funds from the AHC enabling reappointment of some key CBRI personnel to MSI along with transfer of all existing CBRI systems. It ensures continued research support and should eliminate the need for researchers to identify alternative service providers or research expertise. The intent is to continue to provide as many of the same or similar services as currently provided by CBRI and with as few service interruptions as possible to make the move transparent to you. Realistically though there likely will be a few glitches. We ask for your continued patience as we try to restore full functionality in the wake of the CBRI closure.

On July 1 administrative responsibility for the MSI will transfer from the Digital Technology Center to the Office of the Vice President for Research where it will become the backbone of a campus wide computing infrastructure providing technical know-how and research expertise in support of computational- and data-intensive research at the University.
