
Blockers of potassium channel KV1.3 inhibit mitogen-induced activation of T cells. Therefore, potent and selective channel blockers could be used as immunosuppressive agents. Recent modeling studies have been conducted with scorpion toxins, known blockers of KV1.3, with inhibition on the pico to nanomolar range. Based on this work, this research group has established a model of KV1.3. Using this model as a reference, potent and selective small molecule blockers of KV1.3 could be developed.
