SGI Altix Cluster Hardware Information

In total, the SGI Altix resource has 432 Intel Itanium2 "Madison"-class processors dedicated to computation, as well as 864 GB of main memory. Internally, each node uses a proprietary memory interconnect called NUMAlink, which facilitates the rapid movement of data between the processors and banks of memory spread out within the node. The result is an ability to run jobs requesting vast amounts of memory (up to 500 GB) without necessarily having to resort to complicated interprocesses communication (IPC) models such as MPI. Even serial jobs and threaded jobs can leverage a very large amount of memory within the Altix systems.

Network

All of the nodes in the Altix resource are interconnected with a 1-gigabit network for management only.
