Calhoun (SGI Altix XE 1300 Linux Cluster) Policies and Procedures

Information about the policies and procedures applicable to this machine. For policies and procedures common to all machines, see the main policy page.

Home Directories

Currently, 800 GB of file space has been allocated for user home directories. The default quota for home directories is 5 GB.

Scratch Spaces

Currently, there is 2 TB of file space allocated for scratch files in the /scratch1 filesystem. The default quota for scratch space is 50 GB. A scratch clean up process runs daily on the system and all files in the scratch directories that have not been modified for 14 days will be deleted. To use local scratch, you need to request the scratch feature in your submission script, e.g.;

#PBS -l nodes=4:scratch:ppn=8

Users may request exceptions to the scratch clean up and additions to their quotas by sending e-mail to user support.

Queues and Throttling Policies

There is currently 1 queue on the cluster with a 24-hour wallclock limit. Each user is limited to:

Up to 10 jobs per user will be considered for scheduling, but a maximum of five jobs per user can be running at any given time.
