Changing Passwords

After you have received your password from the MSI system staff it is important for you to change your password for your own convenience and security. MSI has published guidelines for passwords.

If you forget your password you can have it reset by contacting user support and they will reset your password and contact you at the phone number you have on record.

E-mail forwarding

After you have logged in it is important that you forward your e-mail to an account that you read on a consistent basis so that MSI Staff can contact you.

To forward your e-mail simply make a text file named .forward in your login directory with the e-mail address you wish to receive the incoming mail.

Example

Frank's account at msi receives mail at frank@msi.umn.edu. Frank wants to forward his mail to his U of M account with the address fra_9999@umn.edu.

Frank simply creates a file called .forward with fra_9999@umn.edu as its first line.

User Environment

The BSCL systems employ the Modules package for manipulating user environments. To view a list of available modules type module avail at the command prompt.

Using the PBS Queue

Using the Cluster resources in the BSCL requires the use of the Altix, the Onyx, or the X84_64 Queue. Information on how to submit jobs to these queues can be found in the detailed user guide.

Printing

The BSCL has two printers and three print queues:

B&W Double-Sided

lpr filename or lpr -PBSCL-hp1-ds filename

B&W Single-Sided

lpr -PBSCL-hp1-ss filename
