Scientific Development and Visualization Laboratory General Information

General information specific to the this lab.

Location

The Scientific Development and Visualization Laboratory consists of two rooms:

575 Walter Library, Workroom A

Workroom A has 11 Linux workstation and one Windows PC. In addition, the room is also fitted with a projection system and is used as a tutorial room for all MSI presentation.

585 Walter Library, Workroom B

Workroom B has a mix of SGI and SUN workstations, a SUN Visualization/Computation server, a PC with 3D display, a PC with scanning facilities and a Macintosh workstations with video editing suite. It is configured for hands-on workshops and is set up so that everyone has a clear view of the front of the room. When not being used for workshops, it is used as a general purpose computer lab.

Hours

Researchers with SDVL accounts have 24 hour access to the SDVL, seven days a week. Access is controlled through your Ucard. To gain access, please send email to the Accounts Database Manager and include your name and the Ucard number (the number on your Ucard beginning with 6000).

Eligibility

Access to these resources is available to faculty members of the University of Minnesota or other accredited institutions of post-secondary education in the state of Minnesota for their own use and that of their research groups.

Getting access

Access is provided upon request to all researchers who apply for and receive competitively reviewed Supercomputing Institute supercomputer resource allocations on core machines. Laboratory access is also available by separate proposal. The review criteria are published publicly or available from Supercomputing Institute's Research Programs Administrator by email or at (612) 625-0012.

Deadlines

To expedite supercomputing research, there is no deadline for submission of laboratory access requests at this time. For continuing projects, a new or updated abstract and user group list are required every six months.
