2024 McKnight Presidential Fellows

MSI PIs Named 2024-27 McKnight Presidential Fellows

The University of Minnesota recently announced the new McKnight Presidential Fellows. Four MSI PIs are included in the 2024 class. The McKnight Presidential Fellows program is a three-year award given to faculty who have been newly granted tenure and promotion to associate professor. The award is based on excellence in research and scholarship, leadership, potential to build top-tier programs, and ability to advance U of M priorities.

MSI News

The MSI PIs on the list are:

  • Gretchen Hansen (Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology)
    • Professor Hansen answers complex questions relating to pattern and process in aquatic communities and ecosystems using statistical analyses of historical data, observational field studies, simulation modeling, and large-scale experimentation.
  • Jacob Junger (Agronomy and Plant Genetics)
    • Professor Junger uses empirical data from field experiments to model economic and environmental impacts of new cropping systems across a range of growing environments.   
  • Peter Larsen (Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences)
    • Professor Larsen uses MSI resources to support multi-omic analyses including transcriptomic, metagenomoic, and epigenomic experiments involving mammals, to investigate epigenomic vulnerabilities contributing to the origin of sporadic disease and emerging zoonoses at the wildlife-livestock interface.
  • William Leeb (Mathematics)
    • Professor Leeb uses MSI to develop methodologies for processing corrupted data.
