MSI holds or sponsors a wide variety of events that are related to high-performance computing and that showcase the ways in which it is essential to the success of research efforts.
On April 23, 2008, MSI held an open house to increase awareness of our services throughout the University of Minnesota community and to showcase the work of the researchers who use our resources. See more information about this event on the Open House web page.
MSI subsidizes internships for undergraduate students from across the United States to work in the Institute for a ten-week period in the summer in cooperation with University of Minnesota faculty members and their research groups. In addition to the financial and administrative support provided, the Institute also advises the interns, holds tutorials related to the high-performance computing aspects of their research, and organizes social events to facilitate networking. See the program web page for more information.
MSI awards grants to researchers in support of their efforts in fields related to high-performance computing. MSI provides these grants in order to promote technical excellence, interdisciplinary cooperation, ability to attract external funding, and the visibility of high-performance computing. The latest information about these seed grants is available on the web page for the program.
In the past, MSI has sponsored travel by researchers to present supercomputing research results at a conference, to seek external support for supercomputing research, or for visitors to the University for short-term collaboration. Applications for sponsorship must be presented before travel takes place and all travel must be completed before June 30, 2008. For full details see the program web page.
