Scanning Text

First turn the scanner on - the switch is on the back of the scanner. Place a page face down on the scanner with the top of the page at the front of the scanner.

To scan text and perform Optical Character Recogniction, from the mac m1, pull the Apple menu down to Instant Access OCR. The following program will start up.

A window will appear asking you to enter the name of the output file, and the format. For a Microsoft Word document, choose RTF. That's it. The page will scan. When the page is scanned, you will be asked if you want multiple pages. If so, place another page in and hit the continue button. When done, click on the End button.

This information is available in alternative formats upon request by individuals with disabilities. Please send email to alt-format@msi.umn.edu or call 612-624-0528.
