X Windows for Mac OS X

The recommended X Windows emulator for Mac OS X is Apple X11. which is available free from Apple. To download, see: www.apple.com/macosx/x11/download/.

Remote Access to UNIX X Windows

In order to access X Window applications from your Mac OS X computer, you need an SSH client opened via the "Terminal" Application and X Window emulator(Apple X11) installed on your machine. For information on using OpenSSH for Mac OS X, see http://www.msi.umn.edu/user_support/ssh/openssh_osx.html1.

To use:

Start Apple X11.
Start OpenSSH via "Terminal Application".
Login to a UNIX machine (example: i7.msi.umn.edu).
