Modeling DNA Electrophoresis and Single-stranded DNA Dynamics

The Dorfman group uses a mixture of theory, computation, and experiment to understand the transport properties of DNA. The primary research effort is focused on DNA electrophoresis in novel sieving matrices, which can provide order-of-magnitude increases in throughput and sensitivity. The second area of research is on single-stranded DNA, in particular DNAzyme catalysis, where they aim to correlate the mesoscale dynamics of these molecules with their biological activity. The primary tool used in the computational parts of both research topics is Brownian dynamics.
