An Interactive Collaborative Environment for Scientific Data Analysis and Visualization
It is often desirable or necessary to perform data analysis and visualization in geographically remote locations, away from the centralized data storage systems that hold massive amounts of scientific results. The larger such datasets are, the less practical it is to move them to remote locations for collaborators; therefore efficient remote analysis and visualization solutions can be crucial. Yet the use of distributed or heterogeneous computing resources raises several challenges for large-scale data analysis and visualization. This project aimed to resolve some of those critical issues. This work will also encourage collaborations among multiple fields at the University of Minnesota and other universities, and allow the researcher to join the national efforts in tackling the problem of the "information big bang,” the explosion of data.
