Functional Genomics of Plant Defense Responses

Plants respond to pathogen attack by activation of a large suite of defense genes, a process that is controlled by a complex genetic network. The long-term goal of this group’s research is to understand the composition and topology of this network. The researchers use expression-profiling data to guide discovery of new regulatory genes. They also use expression profiles as detailed phenotypic descriptions of mutants. This information is used to create network models based on similarities among expression profiles. The group uses MSI resources for analysis of microarray data and nucleic acid sequences.
