Microarray Analysis of Magnetically Levitated MC3T3 Osteoblast Cells

The goal of this project is twofold: 1) to determine if a time-invariant magnetic field, between 1.5 and 17 Tesla, affects gene expression and cell differentiation, and 2) to determine if magnetic levitation is a suitable ground-based alternative for space-based orbital freefall experiments. For the latter, the researchers monitor gene expression via microarray analysis and osteoblast differentiation via quantitative real-time PCR. The murine calvarial osteoblast cell line, MC3T3-E1, is the model biological system for these experiments.
