Advanced Energy Efficient Residential Roof System

These researchers are studying the structural and thermal design of web-core sandwich panels for residential roof applications. The use of thin-walled sandwich structures for residential construction has several benefits, including reduced construction time, improved energy efficiency, and architectural benefits. Roof panels are subject to the opposing constraints of structural and thermal insulating performance. This project addresses the design considerations for the use of web-core roof panels. The designs will be validated using finite element analysis and prototype testing. From the results of this project, the researchers can develop comprehensive design recommendations for panelized roof construction.
