Genetics of Non-melanoma Skin Cancer

Non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs) are the most prevalent malignancies among Caucasians. Further, skin cancer is a model system for understanding carcinogenesis and genetic susceptibility to environmentally induced cancers. These researchers are building on the existing resource of a large population-based case control study (approximately 1,500 basal cell carcinoma, 1,200 squamous cell carcinoma, and 1,400 controls). Genetic analysis focuses on genetic variants identified in a cSNP array of skin cancer susceptibility, as well as a priori candidates in immune signaling.
