Generation of Ecological Metadata Language Archive Files for Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve

Cedar Creek Natural History Area (CCNHA) is a University of Minnesota-owned experimental ecology reserve, designated by the NSF as a Long-Term Ecological Research site. Since 1964, data have been collected at CCNHA and archived in various electronic formats. To better serve the research community and meet their obligations to the NSF, these researchers are establishing an SQL database that will house all data collected at CCNHA. These data will be made available dynamically through web applications on the Cedar Creek Web site, which the researchers are migrating to a Supercomputing Institute server from its current home in the College of Biological Sciences. Two versions of each dataset are being generated from the database and stored on the server. The first is a flat ASCII format used for creating paper hard copies. The second format is the Ecological Metadata Language (EML), a XML metadata schema, developed by the Ecological Society of America.
