DMRT1 in Mammalian Sexual Development

DMRT1 is a key regulator of testicular development, controlling germ cell and Sertoli cell differentiation. To pinpoint the biological and biochemical processes directly controlled by DMRT1 during testis development, the genes that DMRT1 directly regulates must be identified. These researchers have used chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) coupled to microarray hybridization to identify promoters bound by DMRT1. They use bioinformatics approaches to functionally annotate the DMRT1 target genes and to classify these target genes based on presence or absence of known DMRT1 sites in the identified promoter fragments. This analysis will highlight genes encoding potential regulatory proteins and may help find regulatory circuits controlled by DMRT1. The researchers are also storing their increasing volume of ChIP data at MSI.
