mRNA Decay Mediation by Conserved GU-Rich Elements

The Bohjanen laboratory has used Affymetrix microarrays to measure mRNA decay rates in human T lymphocytes under different conditions of stress or activation. This has included T cell receptor-mediated stimulation, infection with viruses, or treatment with ionizing radiation. Their findings suggest that mRNA decay is an important level of gene regulation in response to environmental conditions. They are using software available through the Supercomputing Institute, such as GeneSpring and Pathway Assist, to facilitate the interpretation and presentation of their microarray results. They are also using MSI resources such as online servers and the Inforsense workflow platform to aid in the identification of conserved sequence elements in coordinately regulated genes using computational approaches.
