Mechanisms and Distribution of the Spiking Ion Channels in Neurons: Using Temperature as an Independent Variable
Temperature as an independent variable can be a powerful (and previously underused) tool in evaluating processes of nerve excitation (action potentials). This researcher is employing variable temperatures to evaluate effects on ion channel gating and, in conjunction with non-space-clamped recording, to determine the distributions of ion channels in the membranes of the dendrites, soma, and region of impulse-initiation of traced neurons.
