Investigations Into Ovarian Cancer Chemotherapy Treatment
These studies are focused on elucidating the complex relationships in ovarian cancer between biomarkers, extreme drug resistance (EDR), ascites, and gene expression during initial therapy with anti-tumor agents. Women who have received neoadjuvant chemotherapy provide the opportunity to study tumors before and after initial exposure to chemotherapy and also provide a population in which to test the hypothesis that chemotherapy is selecting out chemoresistant cells that will acquire DNA mutations translating into altered gene expression and mutated proteins, allowing the researchers to predict chemotherapy response, the ability to perform optimal cytoreduction, and survival.
