Investigations Into HIV-1 Infection

This group is using MSI resources for two projects. In the first, the researchers are performing microarray analyses of early simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infections in natural vs. non-natural hosts. The researchers are investigating the differences in progression to disease in the two different kinds of host and are using it as a non-human primate model of HIV-1 infection in humans.

The second project investigates stage-specific gene expression signatures in HIV-1 infection. These gene expression signatures were found using microarray analysis of lymphatic tissue in various stages of HIV-1 infection. This research will provide insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying HIV-1 pathogenesis.
