Genomics and Metabolomics of MC3T3 Response to Microgravity

Osteoblast cell cultures flown on previous orbital missions show evidence that microgravity affects cell differentiation and gene expression. The metrics of this study include microarray analysis to measure differential gene expression and metabolomics, via H-1 NMR spectroscopy, to identify markers of osteoblast differentiation. With this suite of assays, the researchers determine similarities and differences in a number of metabolites and biomarkers for simulated microgravity and International Space Station microgravity environments.
