Design, Synthesis, and Characterization of New Polymeric Materials

This group focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of new polymeric materials. In addition to the development of specific structure-property relationships in these novel materials, they are also striving to discover new and technologically important applications. They emphasize the use of modern polymer synthesis techniques that include a variety of controlled polymerizations and selective polymer modifications. The ultimate goal is to combine contemporary polymer synthesis with detailed molecular, morphological, and property characterizations in an effort to expand fundamental scientific knowledge and to develop advanced technologies. Specific project areas in the group include development of robust, nanoporous materials, synthesis of novel renewable resource polymers, enhancement of the properties of polylactide, synthesis of conducting polymers, and fundamental study of complex structure-property relationships.
