Equine Genetics and Functional Genomics

The McCue laboratory focuses on the genetic basis and functional analysis of metabolic diseases in horses. The major disease locus discovery projects in the laboratory include genetic mapping of a non-GYS1 form of polysaccharide storage myopathy, recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis, equine metabolic syndrome, and osteochondrosis dessicans. The researchers are also studying the genetic variation within and between horse breeds with the goal to better understand the impact of population substructure on within and across-breed genome-wide association mapping in horses. The current functional analysis project is focusing on genome-wide microarray expression studies in skeletal muscle in horses with a novel glycogen storage disorder.
