Structural Investigations of Inorganic and Organic Materials
Acquisition of structural information is critical for research in materials chemistry. In particular, crystal structures provide definitive evidence for the orientations of atoms in materials. This information is crucial to understanding the resulting properties displayed by or predicted of the materials. This project uses the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD). The CSD is the world repository of small molecule crystal structures and is the standard database in this field. The database is used to search for both inorganic and organic materials that are of current interest for applications including electronic devices and environmental sensors. An accurate search of the CSD is essential for the publication of novel crystal structures in peer-reviewed journals.
