Assembly, Targeting, and Regulation of Dynein Motors

These researchers study motor proteins involved in the assembly and motility of eucaryotic flagella. Cilia and flagella play critical roles in human health and disease, and defects in the activities of the dynein motors can lead to infertility, chronic disease, and birth defects. The group studies the genes that encode these motor enzymes, the mechanism of their assembly, their interactions with key regulatory and signaling molecules, and the structure of axoneme. They are using the BSCL, CGL, SDML, and SDVL for this project.
