TOR Signaling and Neural Development in Drosophila

These researchers are investigating the role of the Target of Rapamycin (TOR) signaling system in neural development and behavior, using Drosophila as their model system.  Disruption of TOR signaling in humans produces benign tumors as well as a wide range of neurodevelopmental and behavioral deficits, a syndrome known as tuberous sclerosis complex. The researchers are exploring the function of principal inputs to TOR signaling as well as known downstream affectors in controlling synapse development and function, axon guidance and behavior. Experiments include studies of differential gene expression governed by TOR activity in the group’s Drosophila model of tuberous sclerosis.
