The Development of Histone Acetyltransferase Inhibitors by Virtual Screening of Compound Libraries

Histone acetylation regulates DNA transcription. In an effort to understand the ramifications of acetylation regulation, these reseachers are attempting to discover molecular probes that block the acetylation of histones in cells. They use virtual screening of large compound libraries (>1 million compounds) to find potential inhibitors of Rtt109, a fungal histone acetyltransferase. Once the best inhibitors of the enzyme are found, the researchers plan to purchase or synthesize these compounds and screen them in vitro.
