Genetic Mapping in Wheat

These researchers are mapping genes in wheat that control important traits, including disease resistance and grain quality. Segregated populations of 100–200 lines are phenotyped in appropriate environments and populated with several hundred DNA markers. This is followed by construction of genetic linkage maps and analysis to identify DNA markers associated with genes or quantitative trait loci (QTLs) affecting that trait. Mapping populations currently active in the Anderson lab include those for: leaf rust resistance, stem rust resistance, Fusarium head blight resistance, and grain end-use quality.
