Three-Dimensional Reconstruction of Hepatic Microvasculature in Rabbit Using Hybrid Image Modalities

The overall goal of this project is to develop a hemodynamic simulation model for treating hepatocellular carcinoma with embolization. Embolization must release blocking agents at an upper-stream location in order to obstruct the blood supply to the tumors. An accurate microvascular reconstruction helps to conduct a reliable simulation and to target a localized blocking effect. These researchers have designed a multi-tiered, montage method with hybrid-modality imagery to minimize the reconstruction effort. CT and micro-CT were used for various sizes of vessels. The images are being assembled using a resolution-adaptable three-dimensional image registration.
