Genetics of Leaf Rust Resistance in Wheat and Evolutionary Relationships in the Leaf Rust Pathogen Puccina triticina

These researchers are studying genes in wheat (Triticum aestivum) that confer resistance to the leaf rust pathogen (Puccinia triticina). They are mapping these genes on specific chromosomes using different molecular markers: DArT, SSR markers, and SNPs combined with phenotypic rust responses in seedling plants and adult plants. They will then assess sequence variation in forms of P. triticina and different types of wheat hosts in different structural/functional genes and in rDNA for use in coalescence analysis to determine the evolutionary relationships between the different forms.
