Cannabis and Schizophrenia in Adolescents
This study is designed to answer the following questions: (1) Does cannabis use impact the integrity or volume of brain white matter in the whole brain or specific parts of the brain in adolescents with schizophrenia (cannabis misuse present/absent) and healthy comparison subjects (cannabis misuse present/absent)? (2) Do the findings from the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) studies in (1) correlate with neurocognitive findings or clinical symptoms?
These researchers are analyzing images from MRI, diffusion tensor imaging, and functional MRI. They are quantifying aspects of brain development, including white maturation, gray matter volumatric changes, and connectivity changes across brain structures. The results of the analyses will then be correlated with the neurocognitive measures. This process is computationally intensive, requiring use of MSI resources.
