Pathogenesis of Mucous Cell Metaplasia in Pneumococcal Otitis Media
Chronic otitis media with effusion, also known as chronic secretory otitis media (CSOM), is a common otological disease that endangers hearing, leading to communicative disorders in humans. Although aggressive medical approaches have been applied and billions of dollars spent annually, CSOM remains a significant clinical problem. The development of this disease involves bacterial infection in the middle ear cavity and dysfunction of the Eustachian tube. This project’s goal was to characterize the genes involved in this process using cDNA microarrays.
