Local Field Potential Interactions Between CA3 and CA1 on a Spatial Decision Task

Recent evidence has suggested a phase-specific coupling between theta oscillations in CA1 local field potentials (LFP) and slow (25–50 Hz) and fast (65–140 Hz) gamma oscillations in CA3 and entorhinal cortex, respectively. Although it is clear these areas perform different roles in tasks that require processing of spatial information, it is not clear if this frequency-varying synchrony corresponds to specific covert processes, such as learning and recall. This study uses a multiple-T maze to explore behavioral correlates during LFP coherency in the rodent CA1 and CA3.
