Barley Genetics

These researchers are investigating the genetics of numerous traits in barley. Much of this work involves construction of genetic linkage maps with molecular markers using experimental mapping populations. Current quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping studies are focusing on disease resistance genes, genes that contribute to yield and agronomic performance, and genes that are involved in malting quality. The researchers are also investigating the use of mixed models to detect marker-trait associations using breeding germplasm. MSI resources they use include genetic mapping software and statistical analysis tools.
