Genomics of Legumes: RNA-seq Alfalfa, Soybean, Common Bean, and Lupin

Legume plants are major food crops throughout the world. While the soybean genome has been sequenced, much less is known about other legumes. This project will perform RNA-seq on various tissues of alfalfa, common bean, soybean and lupin. The researchers are interested in genes controlling development and response to stress. Currently they have several billion base pairs of data stored at MSI and are adding more. The students and postdoctoral associates in this group collaborate with MSI bioinformatics specialists to assemble the RNA-seq data and to query expression profiles, tissue- and organ-specific transcripts, and specific families of transcripts.
