Nanomechanics of Advanced Materials Structures

The ultimate goal of this project is to develop multiscale computational approaches for tailoring the mechanical behavior of nanomaterials and nanostructures in order to optimize performance and provide reliable lifetime predictions of microelectromechanical systems, nanoelectromechanical systems, photonic electronics, and a multitude of other devices. Because length scales in the nanometer range affect mechanical behavior, it is essential to establish models adequately addressing structure-property relationships and their impact on deformation and fracture in nanostructures. Developed in synergy with the experimental multiscale-scale probing, this modeling is performed on atomistic and continuum levels.
