Metabolomics of Osteoblasts and Osteoclasts
Metabolite quantification of a biological sample yields insight into the metabolic state of an organism. The emerging area of metabolomics utilizes multivariate or pattern recognition techniques to unravel complex 1H NMR spectra or mass spectroscopic data about the metabolite correlations with disease. This research utilizes a single cell line, MC3T3 osteoblastic cells, and primary osteoclastic cell lines. These cells grow in well-defined chemical and physical environments and thus do not exhibit the complications typical of bio-fluid 1H NMR metabolomic studies. This metabolomic study is discovery driven toward finding biomarkers and sample classification at this stage of investigation.
