Natural Language Understanding of Biomedical Text

The purpose of this project is to investigate and develop tools and approaches for processing information contained in biomedical text. In particular, the researchers are investigating the use of hidden markov modeling for semantic processing of named entities in biomedical text. If successful, this project will enable researchers to process large matrices (e.g., 50,000 X 50,000) of word co-occurrences to support algorithms for semantic analysis (e.g. word sense ambiguity resolution, drug safety surveillance).
