Advanced Numerical Algorithms for Scattering Simulations

These researchers are using computational resources at MSI to further develop and test new numerical algorithms to study the interaction of light with nanostructured optical materials (also known as photonic crystals), within the context of a multi-disciplinary project sponsored by NSF’s Cyber-enabled Discovery and Innovation (CDI) initiative. Once tested, the resources will also allow for the incorporation of the resulting schemes into a computer aided design system that can be used to create new individual photonic crystals and new surface coatings that contain photonic crystals. In addition, the Principal Investigator is working on a collaborative project with researchers at the Mayo Clinic that seeks to implement tools for the assessment and computer aided design of advanced Ultrasound Vibro-Acoustography imaging systems.
