Studies of the Effect of Cell Therapies in the Treatment of Established Cardiovascular Disease
This research comprises several projects related to cell therapies to treat cardiovascular disease. One projects investigates the use of intramycardial skeletal myoblasts as a therapy for ischemic cardiomyopathy. Another project involves CD34+ bone marrow cells, which are considered a potential therapy for cardiac function recovery in acute myocardial infarction. This project involves investigating intravenous versus intramuscular administration of CD34+ cells. A third project considers the relationship between progenitor cells (PCs), biomarkers, and risk factors for cardiovascular disease in an investigation into vascular repair. Using MSI resources to investigate relationships between PCs, biomarkers, and risk factors will allow integration of preclinical data and data from the Mayo Clinic in order to advance the understanding of vascular repair.
