Functional Genomics in Legumes

Legume plants are major food crops throughout the world. The projects in the Vance laboratory focus on functional genomics in these plants. The researchers are utilizing next-generation high-throughput sequencing of RNA and DNA to characterize whole-genome gene expression in legumes subjected to nutrient stress and to characterize genome rearrangement in a large population of soybean mutants. They use tools available through MSI to assemble RNA-seq data into transcripts and evaluating gene deletions by comparison to whole-genome sequences.
