Mitochondrial Epigenetics

The Wallace laboratory is focused primarily on the mechanisms by which foreign chemicals (specifically anti-cancer drugs and perfluorinated chemical pollutants) interfere with mitochondrial metabolism and genetics/epigenetics to beget various metabolic diseases. Some of these research projects have the potential for translation into novel strategies for enhancing cancer chemotherapeutics. In order to further their understanding of the genetics/epigenetics portions of this research, the researchers are beginning to sequence mitochondrial DNA. They are using MSI for access to the program Sequencher (the industry standard software for DNA sequence analysis), which will allow them to further their research into the genetic contributions to metabolic disease.
