### The Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications

The Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications (IMA) promotes applications of mathematics across disciplines, including applications to science, engineering, economics, and social science. Such applications are often very valuable but may require high-performance computation. The 2010–2011 program year, “Simulating Our Complex World,” concentrated on numerical analysis, simulation, and scientific computing, and devoted a large amount of attention emerging architectures and high-performance computing. The 2011–2012 program year, “The Mathematics of Information,” involves network analysis, machine learning, and user-centered modeling.
