Efficient Methods for Optimal Trajectory Planning of Commercial Aircraft

This research seeks to systematically develop and test a set of numerical algorithms for solving optimal trajectory planning of commercial aircraft flights. With rising fuel costs, optimal trajectory planning becomes increasingly desirable. At the same time, air traffic control regulations can make commercial aircraft flights highly constrained. The numerical trajectory planning methods under development can accommodate all practical constraints and efficiently produce trajectory plans that save time, fuel, or their proper combinations.
