Chemistry NMR Laboratory

Abstract:

Chemistry NMR Laboratory

The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) laboratory in the Department of Chemistry provides access to modern spectroscopic equipment for the analysis of compounds ranging from small molecules (e.g., synthetic intermediates and organometallic compounds) to polymers. The main facility houses six solution-state spectrometers, ranging in field strength from 200 to 500 MHz. Many different nuclei may be observed, although 1H and 13C are the most common. The facility is available to all departments within the University, and to a limited degree to external organizations. Some service work is performed, but the vast majority of samples are run by individuals for their own research. Training is provided by the facility staff on an ongoing basis. Offline workstations are available for data processing and users can access the lab network from their own laboratories to manipulate their data. Access to MSI resources is helpful to this lab's users.
