Discrete Methods of Trajectory Optimization

Traditionally, continuous methods of nonlinear optimal control and parameter optimization have been used to determine optimal flight trajectories for commercial aircraft. While producing continuous trajectories, it is generally difficult to accommodate to the segmented trajectory structures required of modern commercial aircraft. In this project, discrete-optimization based methods are systematically devised and compared for their use in commercial aircraft trajectory optimization.
