Generation of Ecological Metadata Language Archive Files for Distribution for Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve
Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve (CCESR) is a University of Minnesota-owned ecology research site, designated by the NSF as a Long-Term Ecological Research site. Since 1964, data have been collected at CCESR and archived in various electronic formats. To better serve the research community and meet their obligations to the National Science Foundation, these researchers have established an SQL database that houses all data and metadata collected at CCESR. These data and metadata are made available dynamically through web applications on the Cedar Creek website, which the researchers are migrating to the Supercomputing Institute. Datasets are generated in a variety of formats, including Ecological Metadata Language (EML), an XML metadata schema developed by the Ecological Society of America (more information). The MSI-based CCESR website also serves as a community outreach tool, providing information on world class research, education opportunities, and species identification guides.
