MSI PIs Melania Figueroa (assistant professor, Plant Pathology) and Jim Bradeen (professor and head, Plant Pathology) are featured in a story about the University’s Oat Global program in the Fall 2018 issue of the University of Minnesota Foundation’s Legacy magazine. Professor Bradeen is the director of Oat Global. The program seeks to improve oat breeding methods and reduce disease by bringing together a consortium of international experts from academia, industry, and agriculture.

The article appears on the Foundation website: Outwitting Oat Rust.

Professor Figueroa uses MSI resources for genomics research of rust fungi. This research was featured on the MSI website in September 2018: Genomic Studies of Oat Crown Rust. Professor Bradeen uses MSI for genomic studies of wild relatives of crop plants in order to find sources of pathogen resistance. This research was featured on the MSI website in February 2017: Genetic Resistance Against Potato Blight.
